Bristol Suicide

Train services between Bristol and Gloucester were brought to a halt on Friday afternoon (November 28) after a person was hit by a train, leading to significant disruption across the rail network.

Great Western Railway (GWR) confirmed that a person had been struck, prompting an immediate suspension of all services on the line between Gloucester and Bristol Parkway in both directions. Emergency services rushed to the scene, and rail passengers faced widespread cancellations and delays.

National Rail issued an alert warning travellers that disruption was expected until 4pm, with trains subject to cancellations, delays of up to 30 minutes, diversions, or last-minute revisions while emergency response teams worked on site.

A spokesperson for the British Transport Police said:
“Officers were called to a report of a casualty on the tracks at 12.45pm today (November 28) near Yate railway station. Officers and paramedics attended and a person was taken to hospital for medical treatment with potentially life-changing injuries. The incident is not thought to be suspicious.”

The line remained closed for several hours while investigations were carried out and the scene made safe for rail operations. Services gradually resumed after the route was reopened at around 6pm, though residual delays continued into the evening.

Passengers affected by the disruption were advised to check the latest travel updates before continuing their journeys.
